On June 18, 2008, five teachers in the Kennett Consolidated School District were named Outstanding Teachers for the 2006-2007 school year.  The teachers, one from each school in the district, were recommended by their principals for their exemplary work during the school year.  The recipients were:

  • Joan L. Viscuso – Mary D. Lang Elementary
  • David A. Bickel – Greenwood Elementary
  • Colleen S. Thurmond – New Garden Elementary
  • Stephanie A. Sarosky – Kennett Middle School
  • Chanel A. Blow – Kennett High School
Each recipient’s name is listed on a plaque hanging in the District Office and on a plaque hanging in each school.  Each recipient also received a certificate, flowers, and a bookstore gift card.

The Outstanding Teacher Awards are sponsored by the Kennett Education Foundation (KEF), which also supports teachers through its Innovative Grants program.  “The KEF is devoted to enhancing the educational experience in the Kennett Consolidated School District,” said Karl Bennett, KEF Board President.  “Teachers are the most important part of the educational process, and we want to honor and support them in any way we can.”

“We have so many great teachers in our district that it is difficult to choose just one from each school, but these five awardees certainly deserve recognition for being excellent examples to their peers,” added Dr. Rudolph Karkosak, Superintendent of Schools.
