About Us

Supporting the academic success of our children is an investment that strengthens our community. Since 2001, the Kennett Education Foundation has partnered with the Kennett Consolidated School District to encourage innovative ideas, invest in programs that improve academic progress, promote family involvement and recognize the outstanding achievements of educators.

The Foundation relies on donations to fund the many programs we support. These contributions originate from individuals, businesses (including matching gifts programs), foundations and other organizations (such as the United Way of Chester County and the Chester County Community Foundation) that align with our mission and the success of our initiatives.

Funds we raise are directed to:

  • Grants for teachers for innovative classroom projects and extra curricular activities not funded by the Kennett Consolidated School District's budget.
  • Scholarships to graduating seniors who are pursuing higher education and are recommended by Kennett High School's Guidance Department
  • Endowments that support the above programs.
  • New in 2010: grants awarded to students.

We invite you to join us in our commitment to the students of the Kennett Consolidated School District. We promise you will find it to be a very rewarding experience. There is no better foundation upon which to build the future of our community.

Donate

The Kennett Education Foundation depends solely on individual, group and corporate contributions to fund the many programs we support. We invite you to join us in our commitment to the students and educators of the Kennett Consolidated School District.

Since 2001 the KEF has partnered with the Kennett Consolidated School District to:

  • Stimulate innovative ideas
  • Invest in programs to improve the academic progress of students
  • Encourage family involvement
  • Assist worthy students in pursuing their college dreams with scholarships and awards
  • Recognize the outstanding achievements of educators

The Kennett Education Foundation is a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization. We have no paid staff, and very low operating costs, enabling us (since 2007) to direct 100% of membership fees and additional donations to scholarships and innovative classroom projects. All operating expenses are covered by grants and donations specifically directed to cover expenses. We raise funds through:

  • Memberships
  • Donations (including matching gifts from employers and United Way designations)
  • Planned giving
  • Fundraising events
  • Grants
  • Corporate Sponsorships
  • Individual Sponsorships
  • PA EITC program

KEF is a vital resource for bridging funding gaps and meeting the educational goals of future generations! Please consider making a contribution now. For more information on donating to the Kennett Education Foundation, please e-mail us at kef@kcsd.org

KCSD Payroll Deduction

In 2009 KEF instituted the KCSD Payroll Deduction Program with the help of Mark Tracy, KCSD Director of Business Administration. Teachers and staff of the Kennett Consolidated School District can now have donations to the KEF deducted directly from their paychecks over a 10 month period.

In it's inaugural year of 2009 over 160 KCSD staff members pledged to give over $9,500 to KEF through payroll deduction. In 2010 KEF saw a decrease in numbers with 99 KCSD staff members pledging $4,850. To continue the payroll deduction program, we schedule a kick-off at the teacher's back to school meeting.

A drawing is held for those employees signing up for payroll deduction on the day of the kick-off!

Congratulations to the 2010 winners!

* Pizza by Elizabeth's $50 gift certificate - Breanna Levi
* Champagne Brunch for 2 at the Mendenhall Inn $54 value - Jennifer Reinheimer
* Chef's Choice Knife Sharpener $100 value - Ben Green
* Full Car Detail $125 value - Lisa Mushnick
* Helicopter Ride of Philadelphia Skyline $255 value - Rebecca Wesselman

There is a deadline for signing up for payroll deduction. This will be an annual program with sign-ups from mid-August through mid-September. Each employee must sign up each year. Please go to the contact tab and request additional information on payroll deduction.

KEF Legacy Society

The passion you have for Kennett Consolidated School District can live on through your legacy and your participation in planned giving.

The KEF Legacy Society recognizes the Kennett alumni, family and friends who have placed KEF in their personal wills through bequests, charitable trusts, gift annuities or other planned gift opportunities.

Members of the KEF legacy Society are helping provide vital resources to meet the educational goals of future generations.

Did you know?

  • You don't have to use cash to make your gift...Donate appreciated securities instead. The deduction is the same as for a cash gift. You do not pay capital gains tax on the transfer.
  • Give an asset that may help us more than it's helping you...such as life insurance policy that provides coverage your family no longer needs or real estate, second home or parcel of undeveloped land or even a collection of books or artwork that you no longer have room for.
  • You can make a gift at no cost to you during your lifetime...name KEF as a beneficiary of your will or revocable trust or of your retirement plan.
  • You can make KEF a partner in your giving...You can deed KEF your home but continue to live there or you can sell us property at a charitable discount.

Pennsylvania EITC

GOOD NEWS for Pennsylvania Businesses! Pennsylvania's Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program allows businesses in the Commonwealth to earn a tax credit for up to 90% of their donations to the KEF. In other words, for every dollar your business donates to KEF, it would cost as little as ten cents. The $0.90 is paid by the state of Pennsylvania through tax credits. For an overview of this tax program see below.

To date KEF has received over $19,000 in donations through the EITC Program We would like to sincerely THANK our generous donors for their commitment to education in Kennett:

  • The Bryn Mawr Trust Company
  • Community Care Behavioral Health Organization (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health Plan)
  • GIANT Food Stores, LLC
  • National Penn Bank
  • First National Bank
  • Fulton Bank

All EITC donations that have been received by KEF are utilized to allow Kennett High School students to take selected college courses on-line.

The Kennett Education Foundation is approved and listed as an Educational Improvement Organization by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. This makes KEF eligible for donations under Pennsylvania's Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC.)

Businesses need to know: This not a grant program. Tax credits under this program are very limited and are awarded on a first-come, first served basis. Applications are accepted starting at 12:01 am, July 1st each year. All available credits are usually gone within 24 hours. To take advantage of this program, corporations generally decide in the fall, if their budgets will include money for this program. Businesses have until the application due date to determine the recipients of their contributions. Interested businesses must prepare and submit a short application (available at: www.newpa.com) Eighty percent of the money raised through this program must go to innovative learning programs as defined by the state. (An accepted program is one that is beyond what the district offers, adds value to the curriculum. General study habits, mentoring, drug use programs do not qualify). Accepted programs must be academically advanced (example: New AP course with local college partner).

For more specific information on this program from the state click on http://www.newpa.com or contact our EITC committee chairman Pete DeAnglo at 610-719-0427 or pdangelo@bmtc.com

Fundraising Events

The Kennett Education Foundation relies on contributions to fund the many programs that we support!

The following are KEF's two major annual fundraising events:

  • Annual Spring Banquet: For the last 5 years KEF has held a Spring banquet fundraising event. It has had increasing success each year, both in increasing in income and attendance! The event has been held at the Mendenhall Inn for the last few years, and has included prominent local speakers, a large silent auction and chamber music by the Kennett High School orchestra.

  • Monster Mash Dash 2011 will be the third year KEF has held a "fun run" family/community fundraising event. It's been officially named "Monster Mash 5K Dash Run/Walk and Spooky Sprint." It's expected to become an annual community event during the month of October.

    Thank you to our sponsors:
