Scholarships and Awards

The following is a list of KEF Scholarships and Awards.  Scholarships are typically $1,000 or more and made payable to the student and the university upon proof of enrollment.  Awards are typically less than $1,000.  Most Scholarships and Awards may be used for vocational or technical college, community college or a traditional 4 year college/university.  Applications are available from the Kennett High School guidance counselors.

The Susan B. Annand Memorial Scholarship

2017 recipient is Amelia Doty


The Susan B. Annand Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Susan B. Annand (class of 1989) and is awarded to a graduate who has overcome obstacles during his/her  high school career. 

The Jonathan Beech Scholarship

2017 recipient is Christopher Villacana Ruiz


The Jonathan Beech Scholarship is given in memory of Jonathan Beech, whose four-year battle with brain cancer inspired many fellow students to strive for excellence in academics, the arts and other activities, no matter what adversities they may face.  The recipient is an outstanding school citizen who cares about his or her classmates with affection and good will, actively involved in Kennett High School music program and intends to continue with artistic endeavors in music, art, theater and/or creative writing.  The scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1,000.

The Elizabeth "Betty" J. Sweede Cloud Memorial Scholarship

2017 recipient is Phillip Matinez


The family of Elizabeth J. Sweede Cloud wanted to create a scholarship fund for a hard-working student both in and out of school who demonstrates strong academic.

The Horace W. Cloud, Jr. and Sara E. Thomas Cloud Memorial Scholarship

2017 recipient is Ryan Salameda


The family of Horace W. Cloud, Jr. and Sara E. (Thomas) Cloud wanted to create a scholarship fund for a hard-working student both in and out of school who demonstrates strong academics, at least a B average and truly needs financial assistance to further his/her education.  The scholarship will be awarded one time and calculated annually by the Kennett Education Foundation, usually in the amount of  $1,000.

The Garage Community and Youth Center Scholarship

2017 recipient is Juan Martinez


The Garage Community and Youth Center Scholarship is to be awarded to two KHS seniors who best exemplify the Garage's values of academic persistence, service to community, and respect for others.  Eligible students will be those who demonstrate academic persistence, goal-setting, a desire to succeed, serves their community through volunteerism and engagement and shows consistent kindness and respect towards adults, peers, and younger students.  Two scholarships are awarded in the amount of $500 each.

The Garage Community and Youth Center Scholarship

2017 recipient is Rocibeth Mendiola-Cordova


The Garage Community and Youth Center Scholarship is to be awarded to two KHS seniors who best exemplify the Garage's values of academic persistence, service to community, and respect for others.  Eligible students will be those who demonstrate academic persistence, goal-setting, a desire to succeed, serves their community through volunteerism and engagement and shows consistent kindness and respect towards adults, peers, and younger students.  Two scholarships are awarded in the amount of $500 each.

The George Family Award for Outstanding Creativity

2017 recipient is Benjamin Skross


The George Family Award for Outstanding Creativity is to be awarded to an individual who has demonstrated artistic excellence or creativity in their field, shown leadership and participated in school by sharing their gifts with the school.  They should posses the attributes of honesty, enthusiasm, integrity, non-discriminatory and constructive influences on the community.  The student should also have a strong original voice and empathy for their fellow students and the community.  This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1,000 at the end of the students first semester of college upon receipt of enrollment of second semester.

Eberle Triplet Scholarship


2017 recipient is Cornelius Ericsson


The purpose of this scholarship, Sponsored by Sueann Hall, is to help ease the burden of paying for college in families with multiple births.  This scholarship will be awarded to a student or students who are multiples, have a minimum GPA of 2.75 and are involved in one or more extra curricular activities within Kennett High School.  This scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded one time evenly to twins, triplets or more, provided they each meet the qualifications.

Eberle Triplet Scholarship

2017 recipient is Gemma Ericsson

The Four Seasons Garden Club Award

2017 recipient is Parker Leto


The Four Seasons Garden Club Award is awarded to a student who will be pursuing a degree in ecology, environment science or horticulture.

The Carol Karkosak Scholarship

2017 recipient is Isabelle Morrison


The Carol Karkosak Scholarship is awarded to a senior who has been an outstanding school citizen, who has cared about his or her classmates with affection and good will, and whose spirit has been genuinely influenced by a love of music.  This student will not necessarily major in music, but will continue to be involved and enjoy music throughout college and beyond.  The scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1,000.

The Kennett Education Foundation Scholarship

2017 recipient is Olivia Donia


The Kennett Education Foundation Scholarship is awarded to the graduating senior who is committed to pursuing higher education.  The scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1,000.

The Kennett Education Foundation Angel Scholarship

2017 recipient is Jacqueline Tucker


The Kennett Education Foundation Angel Scholarship is awarded to a student who shows the same unselfish giving spirit as demonstrated by the anonymous donor.  This student is an outstanding ambassador for Kennett High School with high academic achievement and a minimum GPA of 3.0.  The scholarship is awarded annually in the amount of $1,500 per year for up to 4 years.

The Reach For The SKY Scholarship

2017 recipient is Eddy Rodriguez


This award, sponsored by the Yeleswaram Family, is intended to inspire students to reach their maximum potential regardless of where they start and enable realization of that potential through college education.  In particular, this award is intended to encourage a turnaround in academic achievement.  This scholarship will be awarded to a student with an upward trend in GPA during the high school years.  Preference will be given to students with a financial need and/or first generation to attend college.  This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1,500.

The Kennett High School All-Around Student Scholarship

2017 recipient is Madison Brown


The Kennett High School All-Around Student Scholarship is awarded to a student with good academics, 3.5 GPA un-weighted, 3 to 4 years playing a sport (does not need to be the same team throughout), 3-4 years participation in some sort of music (play an instrument in band, orchestra or sing in choir) who evidenced greater than required number of community service hours.  This student should have also participated in at least one club per academic year and be a dedicated, hard working student, who may not be the top scholar but shows characteristics of all around abilities and leadership.  This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $500.

The KHS Journalism Award of Excellence

2017 recipient is Kylee Harvey


This scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating senior who participated ad excelled in student media and intendeds to pursue a degree in communications.

The KMS PTO Teacher Appreciation Scholarship

2017 recipient is Margaret O'Sullivan


The Kennett Middle School PTO is offering a scholarship in appreciation of the Kennett Middle School teachers to a Kennett Middle School graduate.  This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1,250.

The Landenberg Pet Resort Scholarship

2017 recipient is Caitlyn Mathis


This scholarship is to be awarded to a student who will be majoring in Animal Science, Pre-Vet or a closely related field.

The Donald McKelvie Memorial Chemistry Award

2017 recipient is Zachary Hrenko


The Donald McKelvie Memorial Chemistry Award will be awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in chemistry.  This award is a one time amount of $250 given to the student.

The Grace Milhous Merrick Scholarship

2017 recipient is Julia Sharp


The Grace Milhous Merrick Scholarship is awarded, in honor of Grace Milhous Merrick, to a female National Honor Society student who intends to enroll at Bucknell University.  The Scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $500 per year for two years.

The Anna M. Ott Memorial Physical Education Award

2017 recipient is Kylee Harvey 


The Anna M. Ott Memorial Physical Education Award is to be presented to a female student who plans to major in Health and Physical Education in college.  If there is not a female student who meets that qualification then this award should be presented to an outstanding female athlete.  This award is a one time amount of $200 given to the student.

The Ray Lyman Ott Memorial Award for Music

2017 recipient is Christopher Villain Ruiz


The Ray Lyman Ott Memorial Award For Music is to be presented to an outstanding member of the Kennett High School Orchestra.  This award is a one time amount of $200 given to the student.

The Ralph Parrett Jr. Memorial Scholarship

2017 recipient is Justin Vipperman, Jr.


The Ralph Parrett Jr. Memorial Scholarship is presented in honor and memory of Ralph Parrett, Jr., a graduate of the Kennett High School class of 1952.  Although he did not graduate from college himself, Mr. Parrett valued knowledge tremendously and was a great supporter of higher education.  It is his family‚Äôs hope that this scholarship will support a student who has persevered in the face of challenges and who seeks to continue their education in a post-secondary setting.  The student will be a first generation college student who has demonstrated perseverance, ingenuity and independent thinking and in need of financial assistance. This scholarship is awarded
                                          one time in the amount of $1,000.

The A. Duer(Bud) Pierce, Jr. Award

2017 recipient is Cullen Abelson


The A. Duer (Bud) Pierce, Jr. Award is sponsored by Joe and Alison Biloon and awarded to a student who demonstrates leadership and will attend Penn State University.

The Skip Reynolds Scholarship

2017 recipient is Flor Garcia Vega


This scholarship will be awarded to a graduate who excelled in the Vocational Program and will continue their studies in a related field.  This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1,000.

The Kacie Erin Rumford Memorial Scholarship

2017 recipient is Cindy Serrato Zavala


Kacie Erin Rumford graduated from Kennett High School in 2007.  On March 12, 2013 Kacie died from a Heroin overdose, but had always wanted to change the world, to make it a better place for all of us.  Her thought was that, "one person in life can make a difference."  Kacie enjoyed the many friendships she made while at Kennett High School and her love and vision will continue through the scholarship and www.kaciescause.com.  Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and has completed an essay question (see the guidance department).  This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1,000.

The Nancy Stees Memorial Biology Award

2017 recipient is Michaela Clarkson


The Nancy Stees Memorial Biology Award is awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in Biology.  This award is a one time amount of $250 given to the student.

The James G. Warburton Scholarship

2017 recipient is Hortencia Ortiz Reyes


The James G. Warburton Scholarship is awarded to a Hispanic student who does not have access to traditional financial aid.  This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1,000.

Robin Tyler Scholarship

2017 recipient is Jamie Wessels


This scholarship is in loving tribute to Robin Tyler and is to be awarded to a Kennett High School senior who has demonstrated the desire to improve her community through a caring, loving,and giving personality. Special consideration will be given to candidates who's family has been or is currently being affected by cancer. These traits will help honor the memory of Robin Tyler and all that she meant to her family, friends and community.
This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1000 to a female with a 3.0 minimum GPA and planning to major in Special Education.

Walk in Knowledge Scholarship

2017 recipient is Rocibeth Mendiola-Cordova


This scholarship is to honor a student who has been a member of the Walk in Knowledge program.
This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1000 to a member for at least 2 years. The student has decided on a future goal and is going to attend a two year or four year post graduate institution.  This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $1000.

Girls on the Run Character Scholarship

2017 recipient is Lindsay Kreiger


This scholarship is awarded to a Kennett High School senior female who exemplifies the core values of the Girls on the Run program. The recipient recognizes our power and responsibility to be intentional in our decision making. The recipient embraces our differences and finds strength in our connectedness, expresses joy, optimism and gratitude through our words, thoughts and actions, nurtures our physical, emotional and spiritual health, leads with an open heart, assumes positive intent and stands up for themselves and others. This scholarship is awarded on time in the amount of $1000.


John-Paul Dean Scholarship 

2017 recipient Carli Heimann


 This award is presented by the Dean family in honor of John-Paul Dean, cancer survivor and a former graduate of Kennett High School. This scholarship is awarded to a Kennett High School senior student athlete that has shown excellent leadership both on and off the field and has displayed determination and perseverance throughout their high school career.  This scholarship is awarded one time in the amount of $500.
