2018 Committees


Proven/Promising/SMART Grants: Barbara DeCarlo, Chair

Chairperson acts as the liaison between the review committee and board members.  This person takes receipt of grant applications and distributes them for review to the innovative grants committee.  The chairperson reviews the grant prior to distribution to determine if the grant is eligible given the stated guidelines and provides relevant information when distributing the grant for review.  The chairperson also builds a line of communication with building principals, curriculum supervisors, technology directors and superintendent(s) to insure that the grant request is within the curriculum and /or building guidelines.


Once a decision is rendered the chairperson communicates the committee opinion to the appropriate stakeholders.  The chairperson also provides monthly reporting at board meetings and facilitates reimbursement of funds to the staff member.  Finally the Innovative Grants Chairperson maintains guidelines and current listing of grants approved by the KEF grant committee.


Outstanding Teacher Awards: Rudy Karkosak, Chair

Chairperson communicates with Superintendent to get names of those teachers who have been picked by school Principals.  Those teachers awarded are announced at the KCSD year-end staff meeting where the description of why each teacher was honored is read.  The committee is responsible for having checks made out and purchasing flowers for the teachers as well as communicating with the teachers that they have been invited to the next years Annual Spring Dinner as KEF’s honored guests.  The committee also sees that all plaques located at the District Office and schools are updated with winning names.


Scholarships/Awards: Toni Jaros, Chair

Chairperson manages the awarding of all KEF scholarships by working with the Kennett High School Administration to verify that each recipient matches the qualifications of the scholarship/award they have received.  Assist in the writing of any new scholarships/awards and distributes the payment of scholarship/awards according to the terms of each scholarship.  Also works with KCSD to get photos of each scholarship winner.




Annual Spring Fundraiser: Ann Schlitz, Chair   

Chairperson is responsible for the management of the Spring Fundraiser committee that coordinates all aspects of our annual dinner while working closely with the Silent/Live Auction Chair. Responsibilities include secure venue, choose a theme, secure keynote speaker, secure evening emcee, secure Live Auctioneer, create, print and mail invitations, Invite/RSVP list and meal choices tracked, create evening program/timeline and secure presenters, create and print programs, create name tags, create table placement cards with meal choice, create slideshow and/or video, secure dinner music, honored guest list, event publicity, secure evening volunteers, clean-up, and providing an attendee database to KEF Donor Database for the preparation of Thank You letters to attendees.


Silent/Live Auction: Amy Corron, Chair

Chairperson is responsible for managing a committee that will solicit and package donations, maintain donation database, bid sheet preparation, sign preparation, event set-up, check-out, clean up and providing database to KEF Donor Database for the preparation of Thank you letters to donors.


Grant Writing: Ashley Harris, Chair

Chairperson is responsible for searching and writing grants that benefit KEF.


Honor a Teacher and Staff: Susan Woron, Chair

Chairperson is responsible for the management of the Honor A Teacher Program. Duties include promoting the program at Parent-Teacher conferences and school events including Back to School Night and Open House. Forms are filled out and sent in along with donations.  Certificates are printed and sent to those people who have been honored.  A database is maintained to track all those participating. Each year the spreadsheet is given to the database manager to ensure all information is updated in our donor database.


KCSD Payroll Deduction: Mark Tracy, KCSD Contact

A payroll deduction program is offered to all KCSD staff members at the beginning of the year KCSD staff meeting.  All money collected is allocated towards innovative grants and treated as a general donation.


Legacy/Endowment Giving: Michael Finnegan, Chair

Chairperson works with individuals who are interested in learning more about how to donate to KEF through bequests and investment donations.



Chairperson is responsible for the management of this committee that brings new members into the organization, finding new ways of promoting our brand, and providing information to the donor database manager.  Some help is needed in generating ideas to dig deeper to find more members.


Monster Mash 5K Dash Run/Walk: Heather Connolly, Race Director

A 5K trail race and 1 mile kids fun run is held each year the Sunday closest to Halloween.  The committee is responsible for producing/promoting the race including a t-shirt design contest and providing database to KEF Donor Database for the preparation of thank you letters to donors.  Many volunteers are needed for the committee and on race day.


PA EITC: Dave Spence, Chair

Chairperson is responsible for communications with businesses involved in the PA tax credit program to acquire donations from businesses.  Also works with donors to ensure they have the proper paperwork.




Annual Report: POSITION OPEN

Chairperson coordinates and publishes the annual report for KEF – to be completed by March of the

following year.


Board Nominations: Michael Finnegan, Chair

Chairperson runs the slate of nominations at the October meeting and the election portion of the Annual meeting in November where board members and executive officers are elected. 


Donor Database Management: Jeanna Kim, Chair

Chairperson is responsible for the management of donor information.  Duties include data entry of new donors, input of donor donations, address changes, provide donor information to committee chairs as needed for mailing labels.


Finance:  Sueann Hall, Chair

Chairperson provides financial oversight to KEF using board approved practices.


Marketing:  Amy Doherty & Dawn Carter, Co-Chair

Chairperson is responsible for the management of the KEF Marketing Plan ensuring all tasks are complete by providing the connection between those sub committees. Some marketing channels include website, e-newsletter, social media, KCSD, Bottom of the Bookbag,

KHS Alumni Association, and newspapers. Will send out an end of the year appeal.
