Sponsorships Expand the Boundaries of Education

Newsletter: Fall 2023

The beginning of the school year marks a period of excitement and anticipation. It's a clean slate, a brand-new notebook ready to be filled with ideas, equations, goals, and dreams. For Kennett Consolidated School District students, the path to achieving those dreams is paved by the dedicated teachers and staff, volunteers, and YOU—our Kennett Education Foundation corporate and community sponsors. Your financial support enables us to further our mission of investing in the future of our students. With almost $1.5 million dollars raised for education grants and student scholarships since 2001, KEF fills in the gaps in the school budget by supporting a myriad of programs across the education spectrum, reaching every corner of the district. So, no matter their path, one thing is for certain: The future is bright for our Kennett Consolidated School District students!

EDUCATION GRANTS

Your Investment in Action

Every year, KCSD teachers and staff seek to enhance classroom learning by submitting applications for one of the four types of grants available through the Kennett Education Foundation, ranging from large district-wide initiatives to school-specific projects. Your support brings hands-on experience, project-based learning, and real-world application to our schools. Here are just three examples of your investment in action:

You've Got a (Feathered) Friend in Me

A $2,000 Kennett Education Foundation grant delivered a first-hand experience of the life cycle of chickens to first graders at New Garden and Bancroft Elementary schools.

To Infinity and Beyond!

Kennett Middle School students are exploring new frontiers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math with the help of the school’s inaugural FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) Robotics team created in the 2021-22 school year. Through a $2,000 grant, KMS students are introduced to a higher level of competition that bridges the gap between the middle school and high school robotics teams. Having already placed 2nd among a field of 25 teams last year, the "Basement Botics" have their sights set on the PA State Championship competition in 2024.

Oh, Baby!

Kennett High School students interested in careers in Early Child Education, Social Work, and Nursing are gaining valuable hands-on experience in the school's Growth and Development course thanks to two RealCare Babies purchased with a $3,000 education grant from the Kennett Education Foundation. These computerized infant simulators add a tangible element to the course curriculum by helping students experience first-hand the physical, social, and emotional demands of caring for a “real” baby.

SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS

The generosity of our private donors and corporate and community sponsors paves the way for our KCSD students beyond graduation. These sponsorship dollars fund 44 scholarships and awards ranging from $500 - $10,000 to support graduating seniors aspiring to continue their education at a vocational or technical college, community college, or a traditional four-year college or university.

STEPS To Success

In 2019, the Kennett Education Foundation initiated the STEPS to Success Scholarship which covers the cost of full tuition, fees, and books for a Kennett High School senior looking to earn an associate degree or career certificate. Through this dedicated scholarship, KEF can create a more personal connection with the scholarship recipient and make a direct and tangible difference in their lives.

"It is with great honor and privilege to receive the KEF Steps to Success Scholarship. Due to this extraordinary opportunity I am receiving, I am now more than ever ready to continue my education at Delaware Community College, starting the HVAC program. If it were not for this opportunity, I would feel discouraged to continue my education, but now more than ever, I am excited to pursue this career. Once again, my family and I are extremely thankful for the opportunity."
